Mercedes will launch this year the new Mercedes-Maybach S600 a worthy competitor for the Bentley Flying and the Rolls-Royce Ghost.
Two years have passed since Maybach sold the last model under its brand because of the decreasing interest from its clients. But Mercedes promised that we will hear the name of Maybach once again and that day has arrived: the new Mercedes-Maybach S600 will be launched in 2015.
By returning as a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach will become a synonym for the ultimate luxury of Germans car manufacturer, just like AMG designates the top performance of the brand. With all this, do not expect to see Maybach treatment applied to all models in the Mercedes range, as most models do not received the AMG logo. So no, we will not see an A-Class Maybach – but we look forward to a future GLS Maybach.
So what will make a S500 4MATIC owner to look admiringly at a Maybach S600? Well, just take a look inside: the Maybach’s S-Class is 200 mm longer than the standard model (reaching 5453 mm) in length, a growth that aims directly the wheelbase (now measuring 3,365 mm); the doors were narrowed to 6.6 inches, the space gained is used to improve the interior.
Although, in terms of technology, the Maybach is largely similar to the S-Class, the ornamental elements of the interior will be completely and totally unique, used exclusively for Mercedes-Maybach models.
Mercedes-Maybach S600 is powered by a 6.0 liter V12 engine, produced by AMG, which delivers 530 HP and 830 Nm. The key markets will be China and the United States, followed by South Korea, Russia and the Middle East. The new Maybach will be available with smaller engines – the S500 will have under the hood a V8 twin-turbo 4.7-liter (455 HP and 700 Nm), while the S400 4MATIC, available on the Chinese market will have a V6 bi -turbo engine with 333 HP and 480 Nm. There is no confirmation for a potential hybrid drivetrain. But even without a hybrid engine, the new Maybach Mercedes S-Class promises to be the quietest car in the world, thanks to the use of soundproofing materials and the use of special types of seals.
The Xenatec team will present the model Cruiserio Coupe in Geneva this week. Unlike other car manufacturers, Xenatec will not be present at the Geneva Motor Show, but at a specially constructed pavilion at the La Reserve hotel on the Lake Geneva shores. The exhibit is a coupe version of the Maybach 57S. The design is the work of Fredrik Burchhardt and is implemented as specified by a customer. On the exterior, the Maybach Cruiserio Coupe is painted in two shades that offer a matte gloss in the light. The Xenatec officials say that the paint was applied in several stages and finishing processes to achieve this special color.
Regarding the interior, the 675,000 euro model shows no compromise. The seats are covered with buffalo leather that has not been painted, and all other areas were covered with leather, this time being chosen Nappa leather dyed in a espresso color. The Maybach Cruiserio coupe’s floor is covered with Alcantara leather with blackberry color. The ceiling is dressed in Nappa leather and has a panoramic glass roof.
Under the hood of the Cruiserio Coupe is a 6.0 liter V12 engine taken directly from the Maybach 57 S. The unit has 612 HP and 1,000 Nm and give this exclusive coupe a top speed of 275 km/h, while the average consumption is pegged at 16.4 liters per 100 km. The Xenatec Cruiserior is the longest coupe in the world with a length of 5.73 meters.
The price of Maybach Cruiserio Coupe is 675,000 euros, without taxes.
While Dieter Zetsche said that anything is possible in the future of the Maybach brand, it seems that the German car manufacturer is preparing a new generation of Maybach. This time, the Stuttgart manufacturer will not use an older platform like S-Class (for the first 57 and 62 models was used the W140 platform), but it will be based directly to W222, the platform of the future S-Class. This generation of S-Class will be launched in 2013, while the new Maybach will debut in 2014.
According to the British from Autocar, the new generation of the luxury model will have a new chance at life after a series of reviews of the first generation have shown a real interest in the new generation. Meanwhile, the Daimler engineers have acknowledged that the use of the W140 platform for Maybach was a mistake, and made the upgrade of the navigation systems and the safety control extremely difficult, costly or impossible due to the electronic systems from 1990 that were taken directly from the S-Class.
The future Maybach will benefit from the new Magic Ride system from Mercedes Benz. Thanks to this suspension system, the German luxury model will provide an exceptional roadholding with a level of comfort equivalent to that of Rolls-Royce Phantom. The new generation of the Phantom will debut in 2016, so Maybach would have a chance to attract some extra customers during the two years before the Phantom launch.
The first series copy of Xenatec Maybach 57S coupe was put on sale. The model is called Cruseiro and has a price of 715,000 euros. The copy in question has a higher price than previously announced, of 675,000 euros, because is the first copy of the series. Although it is called Maybach, the model was produced by the specialists from Xenatec, that announced this conversion a few months ago. For now, the Maybach Cruseiro is set out in Saudi Arabia.
Xenatec Maybach 57 S Coupe is equipped with a twin-turbo V12 engine that develops 630 HP. The acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in five seconds and the maximum speed of the model is 275 km/h. Optionally, the customers can receive a special glass ceiling, or can equip this model with top armor. The price of these options has not been announced yet.
Maybach 57 S debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005. The model developed at that time 611 HP and 1001 Nm of torque from an engine supplied by the V12 from AMG. The model had a starting price of 417,402 euros in 2008 in Europe. The Maybach 57 S has a mass of 2735 kg, while the model length is 6165 mm and the width is 1981 mm.
According to preliminary information, the future S-Class platform will generate a range of four Maybach models, more advanced technologically with more powerful engines and even a hybrid system.
The successor of 57 and 62 models will be powered by a V2 and 6.0 liters engine, changed radically to provide resources over 550 HP and 630 HP delivered by the current versions. The torque will stop at 1000 Nm in order to properly exploit the transmission with seven reports signed by Mercedes.
A future hybrid version will will be powered by a gasoline engine assisted by an electrical unit capable of delivering only 25 HP. The complex will be connected to an automatic gearbox with nine reports. The hybrid will travel only 15 miles in the electric mode, but the emissions will decrease by at least 30%.
The two luxury models but will not be the only one of the range, the Germans preparing a sports sedan in the style of current CFA. Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe will not escape so easily, the Stuttgart car manufacturer intending to develop a convertible limousine, inspired by the Mercedes Ocean Drive concept.
